- Deep plum and amber resin, made for low light rather than daylight
- The upright seated shape and the tilt of the ears, moulded as their own panels
- A quiet glow for the end of the day, when the big light is too much
- No flame, no wax and nothing for a curious cat to knock over and spill
The cat will find the warm spot. It usually finds it before you do.
Cats keep different hours to the rest of the house. They appear when the television goes on, settle wherever the light is, and leave again when it suits them. A small lit lamp in the corner is precisely the sort of arrangement a cat approves of — and this one happens to be shaped like the approver.
- Evening company in the corner on the nights the real one is out
- Colour that suits a room in low light rather than fighting it
- A cat present with some elegance to it, rather than whiskers and a bow
One size, about 15 cm tall — small enough for a sill, big enough to notice. A good many people end up with one upstairs and another in the sitting room.
Why the other ways of making an evening feel softer don't quite work
STAYS ON THE WALL
A framed cat print
You hang it, admire it for a fortnight and then stop seeing it. After dark it gives nothing back at all.
PRETTY, BRIEFLY
A jar of fairy lights
Charming for a season, then a knot of wire and a dead battery in the sideboard drawer.
NOT WITH A CAT
A scented candle
An open flame at tail height. Most cat owners discover this once and do not try it a second time.
PURELY PRACTICAL
A plug-in night light
It does a job down at skirting level and has never been admired by anybody.
A lit corner is the best thing in the house after nine o'clock. This is what to put in it.
What it's actually made of
Cast resin, not a printed panel
The colour is cast right through the resin instead of being printed on the surface, and the dark leading lines are moulded in as part of the piece — so the light comes through in distinct blocks and those lines draw the edges of the shape. It also will not shatter the way real glass does, which is worth something in a house with a cat in it.
A cat sitting, not a cat outline
The plums and violets go deepest across the back and the tail, lifting to warmer amber at the chest and around the eyes, and the ears are moulded as two sharp panels of their own. The set of the ears and the straight back are what give it the posture.
Weighted, and worth being weighted
A solid base with a flat footprint — which matters more in a house with a cat in it than in one without.

Rather smaller than the cat, in fact
It asks for about as much shelf as a mug — here it is lit beside one, so the scale is plain.

Common questions
Is it bright enough to be useful?
It is an accent lamp. Enough light to change how a room feels after dark, not enough to read a paperback by — which is rather the point in the evening.
How is it powered?
From a USB cable. It will run off a USB plug adapter, a laptop or a power bank, so you are not tied to whichever corner happens to have a free socket.
How big is it?
About 15 cm tall and 15 cm wide, and 10 cm front to back — roughly one and a half times the height of a mug. It sits well on a bedside table, a bookshelf or a windowsill. Measurements are approximate and vary a little between designs.
How is it cleaned?
A dry, soft cloth or a soft brush along the panels. No solvents, sprays or polishes — resin does not take them well.
Where is the best place for it?
Somewhere with dark around it: a corner of the sitting room, a bedside table, a shelf by the window. The plum comes into its own once the daylight has gone.
Will it survive being posted?
Resin does not shatter the way glass does, and it is cushioned and boxed properly besides. If anything arrives damaged, send us a photograph and we will put it right.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days. Get in touch and we will arrange the return for you.

“It lives on the bookshelf next to where our Tabitha sleeps. She has inspected it twice and decided it may stay.”

“I wanted something for the evenings that wasn't the big light. The purple is deeper than I expected, in the best way.”
