- Deep blue and violet resin — the colours of somewhere further away than here
- An elephant built panel by panel, ears and trunk properly drawn in the moulded leading
- Fits a bedside table, a bookshelf or the sill you look out of in the morning
- For the person whose list of places to go has never been finished
The list didn't get shorter. It just got put in a drawer.
Everyone has a few places they always meant to see. They don't stop mattering because the years got busy — they just stop being mentioned. A blue elephant on a shelf is a small, unembarrassing way of keeping one of them in the room.
- Something in the house that isn't about the house
- Deep blues and violets on the greyest week of the year
- A reminder that the list is still open, not closed
One size, about 15 cm tall — small enough for a sill, big enough to notice. It usually ends up somewhere you look at first thing rather than last.
Why the other ways of keeping a place in mind don't hold up
FADED AND FLAT
A framed travel photo
It stops being seen after a fortnight, and in the evening it's a dark rectangle on a dark wall.
HEAVY AND DULL
A carved wooden elephant
Handsome in daylight, invisible after dark, and forever needing dusting between the tusks.
SEASONAL AT BEST
A string of fairy lights
They give light but no shape. Come January they look like Christmas hung on too long.
AIRPORT SHELF
A novelty gift-shop trinket
Bought quickly, kept out of guilt, and it never quite matched the room it ended up in.
Anything that stands for somewhere you love ought to be worth looking at in the dark, too.
What it's actually made of
Panels with the colour cast into them
The blue runs right through the resin rather than sitting on the front as print, and the dark leading lines are moulded in as part of the piece — so lighting it gives you defined areas of blue rather than one even glow. It also weighs a fraction of a leaded glass lamp, and it won't crack if it's knocked off a shelf.
Blues that build the animal
The deepest indigo sits along the back and the top of the head, with lighter, almost violet panels across the ears where a real elephant's ears are thinnest. The trunk is drawn in the moulded leading itself, which is what stops it looking like a grey lump with a nose.
Steady on four feet
It stands on a solid base rather than balancing on the panels, so it won't shift on a bookshelf or a bedside table.

A small elephant, in every sense
It's about the height of a mug and a half, so it shares a bedside table rather than claiming one — here it is lit next to a mug for scale.

Common questions
Is it a proper light or just an ornament?
It's an accent lamp. Lit, it gives a soft blue glow that's plenty for a bedside table or a dim corner but nowhere near enough to light a room. Unlit, it stands up on its own as coloured resin.
How is it powered?
By USB. The cable ends in a USB plug, so any adapter, a laptop or a power bank will run it — useful when the only socket in a bedroom is already behind the bed.
How big is it?
About 15 cm tall and 15 cm wide, with 10 cm from front to back — roughly one and a half times the height of a mug. That makes it easy to place on a bedside table, a bookshelf or a windowsill. Measurements are approximate and vary a little from design to design.
How do I dust it?
A dry, soft cloth over the panels is enough. Please don't use solvents or harsh cleaning sprays — resin doesn't take to them, and it needs no polish at all.
Where does it look best?
Deep blues want something plain behind them. A pale wall, a bedside table, a bookshelf with a bit of space around it, or a windowsill where the last of the daylight can come through it.
How is it packed?
Cushioned and boxed. Being resin rather than glass it stands up to a knock far better than it looks, but we'd still rather it arrived perfect. If something has gone wrong in transit, send us a photo and we'll put it right.
What if I change my mind?
There are 30 days to return it. Get in touch and we'll arrange it straightforwardly.
What customers are saying

"The blue is much deeper than a photograph can show. It's on my bedside table and it's the last thing I turn off."

"We went to Sri Lanka in 1987 and never went back. This sits on the shelf where the photographs are and it says more than they do."
