The copper strand: 99.9% pure copper
Solid metal rather than a plated finish, and it contains no nickel. Over time this is the strand that changes most, warming to a deeper brown while the other two hold their tone.
The brass and silver-tone strands
These are what give the piece its multi-tone effect. We can vouch for the copper because we know exactly what it is. We cannot certify the exact alloy behind the brass and silver-tone strands, so we are not going to claim the whole bracelet is nickel-free.
Twisted and set by hand
The three strands are twisted and set section by section rather than machine-wound, which is why the pitch of the twist wanders slightly along the band.

Common questions
Will the copper strand mark my skin?
It can, and it is worth knowing before you buy. Where the copper strand sits against you it may leave a faint green tint, which is the metal reacting with the natural acids in your skin. It is harmless, it is a mark rather than a rash, and soap and water lift it off in seconds. Because only one of the three strands is copper, it tends to show as a thin line rather than a band. The clear lacquer inside the band reduces it.
I react badly to nickel. Is this one safe for me?
Be careful with this particular piece. The copper strand contains no nickel and we are happy to say so plainly. What we cannot do is certify the exact alloy used in the brass and silver-tone strands, and we are not going to guess on something that matters this much. If you have a strong nickel allergy, choose one of our all-copper pieces instead — Rain and Otter are both plain solid copper with nothing else in them.
Does copper do anything for joints or circulation?
No. Copper jewellery has been put through randomised placebo-controlled trials and showed no effect on arthritis, joint pain, inflammation or circulation. We sell Pebble because it is a good-looking hand-twisted bracelet that solves the gold-or-silver problem, not because it does anything to you.
Will it fit a small wrist?
The band is open at the back, so it slides over the side of the wrist and settles rather than hanging loose. A narrower wrist can close the gap slightly by hand and a broader one can ease it open. Work in small steps, because copper is soft and the twist holds its shape best if you are not forever adjusting it.
Do the three metals need different care?
Keep it simple: a soft dry cloth, and keep it out of the shower and the swimming pool. The copper strand will warm and darken with wear while the other two hold their tone, and that contrast is part of the look. Avoid dunking the whole piece in copper polish, since that only suits one of the three — use a cloth and work along the copper.
