It looks crisp in a photograph because it's perfectly even — which is the tell. It's sitting on top of the metal rather than in it, so the first thing to go is the design, usually at the point where your wrist rubs the band.

How Verge is made
Engraved barb by barb
The feather's shaft is cut first, then every barb is traced individually off it. It's slow work and it shows in the result — the barbs aren't identical, they lie at slightly different angles the way real ones do.
Cut in, not laid on
Because the lines are cut into the surface, there's nothing that can flake or rub away. As the copper darkens, the engraved lines hold the deeper colour and the feather actually becomes clearer with age.

Common questions
Will it leave a green mark on my wrist?
It can, and we'd rather you heard it from us. Copper reacts with the natural acids in your skin and that reaction can leave a faint green tint under the band. It is harmless, it is a mark rather than a rash, and it washes off with soap and water in seconds. Warm weather, hand cream and perfume make it more likely. If you'd rather avoid it altogether, a thin coat of clear lacquer painted inside the band reduces it a great deal.
Will the engraving wear away?
No — it's cut into the metal rather than applied to the surface, so there's no layer to lose. What changes is the colour: the recesses of the engraving darken faster than the flat of the band, which makes the feather stand out more as time goes on rather than less.
Can I wear it in the shower or the pool?
You can wear it all day, every day — but we'd slip it off for showers, swimming and washing up. Soap and chlorine accelerate the darkening and make the green tint more likely. Two seconds to take off, being open-backed.
How do I bring the brightness back?
A copper polish and a soft cloth, or lemon juice with a pinch of salt, then rinse and dry. Work along the feather rather than across it. Plenty of people never bother and simply let it go dark — both are right.
What size should I order?
