How Thistle is made
99.9% pure copper
A single solid metal with nothing layered over it, which is why there is no coating to wear away and no nickel-bearing base underneath. Copper is also naturally antimicrobial as a property of the metal.
Engraved flower by flower
Every thistle head and every length of vine is cut by hand, and the beaded borders along both edges are worked one pass at a time. No two bracelets come out identical, which is the point.
Six magnets, set flush

Common questions
Will copper leave a green mark on my wrist?
Sometimes, yes — and we would rather tell you than have it surprise you. Copper reacts with the acids and salts that are naturally on skin, and some people see a faint green tint underneath. It is harmless. It is a mark, not a rash, and soap and water take it off in seconds. Warm weather, hand cream and perfume all make it more likely. If you would rather it never happened, paint a thin coat of clear lacquer or clear nail varnish on the inside of the band and re-do it when it wears thin.
What do the magnets do?
They are part of how the bracelet is built — six of them, sunk flush into the band so the inside stays smooth against your skin. That is the whole of it. Magnetic jewellery has been put through randomised, placebo-controlled trials and no effect on pain, joints or anything else was found, so we make no such claims and would be wary of anyone who does. One practical note: if you have a pacemaker or another implanted medical device, speak to your GP before wearing magnetic jewellery.
Does copper itself help with aches or stiffness?
No. The same trials tested copper bracelets and found no effect there either. We sell this because it is solid nickel-free metal, engraved by hand, that you can put on one-handed — all of which is true and none of which is medical.
How do I get it to fit properly?
Hold the cuff with the gap facing you and ease the two ends gently apart to loosen it, or press them slightly together to tighten. Do it a little at a time and try it on as you go. It will hold wherever you leave it, and you can reset it whenever you like.
It has gone darker in the engraving. Is that wrong?
No — that is copper doing what copper does. The patina settles first into the cut lines, which makes the thistles and vines stand out more clearly. Many people leave it. If you want it bright again, a soft cloth with a little lemon juice and salt will do it in a minute; rinse and dry afterwards.
What size should I order?
There is only one, and it fits most wrists. The bracelet is open at the back and adjusts by hand, so rather than choosing a size you simply set it to your own wrist when it arrives.
