How Grain is made
Shaped, not cast
Each wire frame is bent into its curve by hand rather than poured into a mould. That's why the loops aren't mathematically identical — they're the shape a pair of hands made, which is a different thing to look at.
Stones set before closing
The green opals go into their frames while the cuff is still open and workable, so each stone can be seated properly and the metal closed around it. Doing it in that order is slower, and it's why the settings hold.

Common questions
Will it turn my skin green?
It may leave a faint green tint, and we'd rather say so up front. Copper reacts with the natural acids in your skin, and that reaction is what leaves the mark — it's harmless, it's a mark rather than a rash, and soap and water take it off in a few seconds. Heat, hand cream and perfume make it more likely. A thin coat of clear lacquer painted inside the cuff reduces it a great deal if you'd rather not see it at all.
Are the stones secure in a cuff you flex to put on?
Yes — the flex happens at the open back of the cuff, well away from the settings, which sit on the fixed front section. The stones were set into their frames before the piece was closed up, so they're held by shaped metal rather than by adhesive.
What colour green are the opals, really?
A soft, slightly milky green rather than a bright emerald, and each stone catches the light a little differently. Against warm copper it reads as quite earthy — closer to sea glass than to costume-jewellery green.
How should I clean it?
Warm soapy water, a soft brush around the wirework, then dry it thoroughly. If you want the copper bright again, use a copper polish on the metal and keep it away from the stones. Many people leave the patina alone — it suits the green particularly well.
What size should I order?
