Common questions
Will my skin go green underneath it?
Possibly, and we'd rather you heard it from us. What causes it is the metal reacting with the acids naturally present in your skin, and the result is a faint green tint on the skin beneath the band. There is nothing harmful in it — it's a mark, not a rash — and soap and water take it off in seconds. It varies enormously from person to person. The clear lacquer on the inside of the cuff makes it far less likely, and drying the piece if it gets wet helps too.
Does wearing copper ease pain or stiffness?
No. Copper bracelets have been compared with identical-looking dummy bracelets in randomised trials and made no measurable difference to arthritis, joint pain, inflammation or circulation. A lot of sellers stay quiet on this because the hope sells the bracelet. We'd rather you bought the Lichen for the object it is.
How much does it adjust?
It's an open cuff of 175 mm, so it's slightly adjustable rather than infinitely so: enough give to bring it in or open it out to sit comfortably on most wrists, but it isn't designed to be bent right around. Ease it a small amount at a time and leave it once it feels settled.
Can I keep it on for washing up and gardening?
You can — there's no plating to lift and no stone to work loose. It will darken faster if it's often wet, which some people like and some don't. If you'd rather keep it bright, dry it afterwards and give it a polish now and then.
I'm allergic to nickel. Is this all right?
Yes as far as nickel goes — there is none in the metal, and nickel is what the great majority of jewellery reactions come down to. Copper sensitivity itself is rare but real, so a short trial wear is sensible if you haven't worn copper before.
