How Slate is made
99.9% pure copper
One solid metal all the way through: no plated coat, no mixed base underneath, no nickel. Copper is also naturally antimicrobial as a property of the metal itself.
Petal by individual petal
The vine is engraved along the band and each flower is built up one petal at a time, cut separately. That is why the flowers are not identical to one another — a stamped pattern repeats exactly, and this one doesn't.

Common questions
Will it leave a green mark on my wrist?
It can, and you should know that before you order rather than after. Copper reacts with the natural acids and salts on skin and leaves a faint green tint on some people. It is harmless — a mark, not a rash, and quite different from the reaction nickel causes — and it washes off with soap and water in seconds. Heat, hand cream and perfume all make it likelier. If you would rather it never happened, a thin coat of clear lacquer or clear nail varnish on the inside of the band reduces it a great deal and can be redone when it wears away.
What are the six magnets for?
They are part of the build — three on each side, set into the inner band and sunk level with the copper. That is genuinely all. Magnetic jewellery has been through randomised, placebo-controlled trials and no effect on pain, stiffness or anything else was found, so we make no claims of that sort. One practical note: if you have a pacemaker or another implanted medical device, check with your GP before wearing magnetic jewellery.
And the copper — does that do anything for joints?
No, and the evidence on that is just as clear. We would rather you bought this for what it actually is: solid nickel-free metal, engraved by hand, that goes on with one hand and looks better every year.
How do I adjust it?
Hold the cuff with the opening towards you and ease the ends apart to loosen, or press them together to tighten. Small movements, trying it on as you go. It holds where you set it and can be reset as often as you want — handy on days when your wrists are puffy.
The engraving has gone darker. Is that a problem?
No — it is usually an improvement. Patina settles into the cut lines first, so the vine and the petals stand out more clearly than they did when it was new. If you prefer it bright, a soft cloth with a little lemon juice and salt brings it back in a minute; rinse and dry afterwards.
