Common questions
If I wear it every day, will it leave a green mark?
It might, and daily wear is the likeliest way to see it, so here is the plain answer. Copper reacts with the acids and salts naturally on skin and leaves a faint green tint on some people. It is harmless — a mark rather than a rash — and it washes off with soap in a few seconds. Heat, hand cream and perfume all make it more likely. If you would rather not deal with it at all, paint a thin coat of clear lacquer or clear nail varnish inside the band and redo it when it wears away.
Does wearing copper do anything for aches or stiffness?
No, and we won't pretend. Copper bracelets have been through randomised placebo-controlled trials and no effect was found. What is true is that this is solid nickel-free metal, engraved by hand, that you can put on with one hand and leave on — and that is the reason to buy it.
Can I sleep and shower in it?
Yes. There is no plating to lift and no clasp to catch on bedding. Water just hurries the patina along, and the patina is the part most people end up liking. If you want it bright again there is a two-minute fix below.
It's gone darker along the feather. Have I spoiled it?
No — that is copper doing what it does, and it usually improves the engraving, because the patina settles into the cut lines and the barbs read more clearly. If you prefer it bright, rub it with a soft cloth and a little lemon juice and salt, then rinse and dry.
