Common questions
Will it leave a green mark on my ankle?
It may well, and we would rather say so than let it surprise you. Copper reacts with the natural acids and salts on skin and leaves a faint green tint on some people. It is harmless — a mark, not a rash — and soap and water take it off in a few seconds. Heat, sun cream and perfume all make it more likely, so an anklet in summer is about the most likely place to see it. A thin coat of clear lacquer on the inside of the band cuts it down a great deal, and you can reapply it whenever it wears away.
Does copper help with aches, swelling or circulation?
No. Randomised, placebo-controlled trials have tested copper jewellery and found no effect at all. We would rather be honest and lose the sale. Buy this because it is light, solid, nickel-free and goes on one-handed.
Can I shower or swim in it?
You can. It is solid copper, so there is no coating to lift or flake — water will simply speed up the patina, which is the darkening you may come to like anyway. If you would rather keep it bright, dry it off properly after the sea or a swimming pool.
How do I adjust it?
Hold the two ends of the opening and ease them apart to loosen, or press them together to tighten. Little by little, trying it as you go. It holds where you leave it, and you can reset it as often as you want — useful if your ankles swell in the heat.
